ECCU Secondary School Teachers Receive Training in Business Innovation and Planning

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 24, 2013–Secondary School teachers throughout the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) will be exposed to information designed to increase their knowledge and understanding of business innovation and business planning during a workshop which the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) will host on 25 September.

The workshop, which particularly targets teachers of business, economics, accounts and related subjects, also seeks to address the gaps which were identified in the submissions for the first ECCU Innovation Contest for Secondary School Students, which the ECCB hosted in 2012. The contest challenged students to develop an innovative business idea and prepare a supporting business plan. It is expected that having attended the workshop the teachers will be better able to assist the students with developing an entrepreneurship mindset and impart information that will empower the students to identify and develop entrepreneurship opportunities.

Ms Sybil Welsh, Adviser, Corporate Relations Department, ECCB will facilitate the workshop which will cover the following topics:

1. The economic imperative for business innovation
2. The nuts and bolts of business innovation
3. Business innovation techniques
4. Business innovation and planning
5. Framework for conceptualising business planning

The workshop will be held at the ECCB Headquarters, St Kitts and Nevis and transmitted via videoconference to the other seven ECCB member countries.
