Jamaica Records Lowest Murders in Decades
KINGSTON – Jamaica has achieved a milestone in its fight against violent crime, with murders dropping below 700 for the first time in over three decades.
Official figures from Jamaica’s Ministry of National Security reveal the country recorded 673 murders in 2025, marking the lowest annual total in 31 years. The achievement represents significant progress in efforts to reduce violent crime across the island nation.
Commissioner of Police Dr. Kevin Blake attributed the decline to comprehensive reform efforts within law enforcement.
“The reduction reflects tangible progress in the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s transformation agenda, improved operational effectiveness, and stronger partnerships with communities and stakeholders,” Dr. Blake stated.
The historic decrease suggests that coordinated strategies between police and community partners are yielding measurable results. The transformation agenda has focused on modernizing policing methods and building trust with local communities.
The last time Jamaica recorded fewer than 700 murders was over 30 years ago, making this achievement particularly noteworthy for a nation that has struggled with high crime rates for decades.
