Old Road Extend Lead, Eagles Continue Climb
BASSETERRE: MFCR Old Road United Jets extended their stranglehold on the National Bank Group/SKNFA Premier League with a 3-1 victory over St. Peters FC, while TGE Dieppe Bay Eagles secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a crucial 1-0 triumph over Sandy Point.
Old Road’s Sunday victory maintains their perfect record at 10 wins and one draw from 11 matches. The league leaders now sit on 31 points with a commanding six-point cushion over second-place Honda Newtown United, who defeated Rams Village Superstars 3-2 in Saturday’s Valentine’s Day opener.
The Jets have now scored 35 goals while conceding just eight, giving them a remarkable +27 goal difference that underscores their dominance. Their title credentials appear unassailable as they continue to set the pace at the top of the table.
Newtown United’s narrow victory over Village Superstars keeps them in the hunt, extending their winning streak to six matches. The 3-2 scoreline showcased both teams’ attacking quality, but Newtown’s defensive improvements proved decisive. They now have 25 points from 11 matches, maintaining pressure on the leaders.
For Village Superstars, the defeat was a setback after their recent revival. They remain third with 16 points.
At the bottom of the table, Dieppe Bay Eagles’ 1-0 win over Sandy Point marks a significant turning point. After enduring a winless nine-match start to the season, the Eagles have now won consecutive matches, climbing to eighth place with seven points. The clean sheet will boost confidence in a defense that previously conceded 30 goals in their opening matches.
Sandy Point remain rooted to the bottom with just five points from 11 matches. Their attacking struggles persist, having scored only five goals all season, and the loss to fellow relegation battlers could prove costly in their survival fight.
Defending champions St. Paul’s United continued their impressive resurgence with a 1-0 victory over Cayon Rockets, making it five consecutive wins, and climbed to fourth place with 15 points, demonstrating the quality that won them last season’s title.
SOL IAS Conaree FC also earned three points with a 2-1 win over Bath United, moving into a three-way tie for fourth place alongside St. Paul’s and St. Peters on 15 points.
