PALS Continues Life-Saving Pediatric Mission

BASSETERRE: The Pediatric Assistance League of St. Kitts and Nevis (PALS) continues demonstrating its critical role in children’s healthcare, with recent interventions highlighting 35 years of life-saving work across the federation.

Four-year-old Dujon successfully traveled to Health City Hospital in the Cayman Islands via air ambulance this week for urgent cardiac treatment. The complex operation involved the Office of the Prime Minister, the Children’s Medical Fund, the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs, and JNF Hospital’s Pediatrics team led by Dr. Henry.

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew praised the collaboration, stating: “This is the true purpose of the fund. It is about our people. It is about protecting our children and giving them a fair chance at life.”

The organization celebrated additional milestones, including ten-year-old Prince’s birthday following his successful surgery at Shriner’s Hospital in St. Louis, where he spent four months recovering. Three more children—eight-year-old Nu’Vida, five-year-old Jahmiel, and nearly two-year-old Quandre—recently departed for surgical procedures through World Pediatric.

Since its 1990 establishment, PALS has financially assisted hundreds of children, facilitating overseas medical treatment, providing US visa assistance, donating essential medical equipment, and covering costs for MRIs, prescriptions, and specialized care. Beyond financial support, the organization serves as an emotional support system for families navigating unfamiliar medical systems.

PALS emphasized: “These moments are a powerful reminder of the difference we can make in a child’s life when a community works together with kindness, generosity and compassion.”
