Prime Minister Drew Applauds Agricultural Innovations
BASSETERRE: The recently concluded Agriculture Open Day and Marine Expo has been hailed as a vibrant celebration of St. Kitts and Nevis’ rich agricultural heritage and burgeoning marine sector. Prime Minister The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, who attended the event, praised the organizers, led by Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Marine Resources, The Hon. Samal Duggins, for delivering a well-organized and dynamic showcase that highlighted the nation’s farming community and entrepreneurial spirit.
In a statement shared on social media, Prime Minister Drew expressed his pride in the event, noting its role in spotlighting the potential of local agriculture and marine industries.
“Last night, I visited the Agriculture Open Day and Marine Expo, which was a well-organized and vibrant showcase of our farming community,” he stated. He extended congratulations to Minister Duggins and his team for orchestrating another successful event that brought together farmers, fishers, entrepreneurs, and the wider community.
A standout moment for the Prime Minister was his interaction with the young entrepreneurs behind Camp David Fish Farm, an ornamental fish business based in Conaree. The enterprise, operated by a group of driven young men, exemplifies the innovative spirit and determination that the government seeks to foster among the nation’s youth.
“Their story is a powerful example of what our young men can achieve when given the chance and they work hard,” Dr. Drew remarked, describing the venture as “a true success story.”
The Agriculture Open Day and Marine Expo is more than a display of produce and marine products; it is a testament to the resilience and creativity of Kittitians and Nevisians. The event showcased advancements in sustainable farming, fisheries, and aquaculture, while providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to connect with the public and potential investors. Camp David Fish Farm’s presence at the expo underscores the growing interest in niche markets like ornamental fish, which not only diversifies the agricultural sector but also creates new economic opportunities for young people
