Prime Minister Engages with Diaspora in Canada

CANADA: Following the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in September 2025, Prime Minister The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, traveled to Toronto, Canada, to connect with members of the St. Kitts and Nevis diaspora. Accompanied by Senior Minister The Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and Diaspora Ambassador Dr. Christine Walwyn, the visit was an opportunity to share updates on national development, listen to the diaspora’s concerns, and explore ways to deepen their involvement in the Federation’s future.

The meeting in Toronto was marked by open and heartfelt dialogue. Prime Minister Drew highlighted the significant strides St. Kitts and Nevis has made in recent years, including advancements in infrastructure, economic diversification, and sustainable development initiatives. Key among these is the government’s focus on transforming St. Kitts and Nevis into a sustainable island state, with investments in renewable energy, healthcare, and education. These efforts align with the Federation’s broader vision of fostering resilience and prosperity for all citizens, both at home and abroad.

The diaspora, in turn, shared their perspectives on critical issues. Discussions touched on practical concerns such as improving flight connectivity between Canada and St. Kitts and Nevis to facilitate easier travel and economic exchange. Infrastructure development, including transportation and digital connectivity, was another focal point, with attendees emphasizing the need for modern systems to support tourism and trade. Above all, the diaspora expressed a deep desire to contribute to their homeland, whether through investments, knowledge sharing, or community initiatives.

The passion and commitment of St. Kitts and Nevis nationals living in Canada were evident throughout the engagement. Prime Minister Drew noted the diaspora’s enduring love for their homeland, which serves as a powerful force in strengthening national unity and progress. “Your love for home is real, and your willingness to play a role in our nation’s future strengthens my belief that together, no challenge is too great,” he remarked, underscoring the vital role of the diaspora in nation-building.
