Prime Minister Joins UN General Assembly

UNITED NATIONS — Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, participated in the opening of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, representing the nation’s interests on the global stage. In a post on Facebook, Dr. Drew emphasized St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment as a small island developing state to advocate for climate justice, equity, and global solidarity.

Prime Minister Drew, who arrived in New York with a delegation of key ministers, announced he will deliver the nation’s National Statement on Saturday, Sept. 27. The address is expected to highlight the concerns of Kittitians and Nevisians amid growing climate challenges facing small island nations.

The Prime Minister’s attendance at UNGA80 underscores St. Kitts and Nevis’ push for sustainable development and international cooperation, issues critical to the survival of vulnerable island states.

Joining Prime Minister Drew as part of the official delegation are the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Economic Development, International Trade, Investment, Industry and Commerce; and the Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action, and Constituency Empowerment, among others.

During his time at the United Nations, Prime Minister Drew is scheduled to attend several high-level dialogues and bilateral meetings with heads of state, development partners, and leaders of multilateral institutions.
