BASSETERRE – Key national stakeholders convened Tuesday to review a groundbreaking framework that could position Saint Kitts and Nevis as the world’s first Sustainable Island State.
The National Stakeholder Consultation, held November 25 and organized by the United Nations Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Multi-Country Office, focused on strengthening the Pilot Vulnerability-Resilience Country Profile (VRCP) for the Federation.
The VRCP serves as a strategic tool designed to complement the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index, offering a nationally tailored understanding of the country’s vulnerabilities and strengths. The consultation provided stakeholders an opportunity to refine the pilot framework to accurately reflect the unique realities facing Saint Kitts and Nevis.
“This marks another step toward advancing the Federation’s journey to become the world’s first Sustainable Island State,” organizers noted during the session.
The initiative aims to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by providing deeper insights into the nation’s specific challenges and capabilities.
Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Simon Springett, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, and Mr. Carlton Pogson, Financial Secretary for the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The consultation represents part of broader efforts to ensure development strategies align with the Federation’s particular circumstances as a small island developing state navigating environmental, economic, and social vulnerabilities.
