SKN Signs Taiwan Green Energy Deal
A new microgrid project promises solar power, battery storage, and grid upgrades for the Federation.
BASSETERRE: St. Kitts and Nevis has inked a landmark renewable energy agreement with Taiwan, marking a significant stride in the Federation’s push toward a cleaner, more resilient electricity grid.
The Implementing Arrangement for the St. Kitts & Nevis Green Energy Transition Demonstration Project was signed with the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) during a technical mission to the Republic of China (Taiwan), led by Hon. Konris G.M. Maynard and Hon. Dr. Joyelle Clarke.
“We took another important step in advancing the sustainable energy transformation of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Maynard
Under the arrangement, a microgrid will be developed at the SKELEC Transmission and Distribution facility, incorporating solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage, and advanced energy management and monitoring platforms. Grid simulations and technical training are also included to build local capacity.
The project will be implemented by Taiwan’s Technical Mission, led by Mr. Alex Lai, working alongside the Federation’s Energy Unit and the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC). Operational data generated through the initiative is expected to support national programmes including the SOLARISE Programme and help prepare the grid for wider distributed solar integration.
The mission to Taiwan was sponsored by the Government of Taiwan. Minister Maynard extended thanks to Taiwan for what he described as “continued partnership” as the Federation works toward “a secure, resilient, and sustainable energy future.”
