Washie Staff Unite for Student Success
BASSETERRE: Washington Archibald High School held a transformative Professional Development Day on February 2, pausing routines for reflection and growth under the theme “Stronger Together: Honouring Every Student, Every Story.”
“This theme is more than a slogan. It is our promise.” Staff recommitted to ensuring every child feels “seen, valued, challenged, protected, and inspired,” as entrusted by parents and the community.
Teaching staff attended impactful sessions. Mrs. Andrea Wattley stressed professionalism, noting “excellence in conduct shapes excellence in classrooms.” Mrs. Julia Byron Isaac’s “Reigniting the Why” urged educators to reclaim their passion, affirming “the unwavering belief that we can change lives.”
Auxiliary staff focused on safety and sanitation. Sergeant Ryan Haywood covered workplace security, emphasizing “a safe school is the foundation for learning.” Ms. Michelle Taylor highlighted sanitation’s role in reflecting “dignity and respect.”
Breakout discussions on “Professional Rapport and Maintenance,” led by Ms. Alicia Collins and Mr. Tee Jay Whittaker, fostered honesty and support. The school affirmed: “We are not only asking our students to grow; we are doing the work ourselves.”
The day also honored retiring Social Sciences teacher Ms. Bailey after 20+ years. Known for her “quiet disposition,” “calm presence,” and “tenacity,” she received gifts from the school and department.
The high school vows to strengthen professionalism and relationships, serving St. Kitts and Nevis youth better. “When we grow together, our students thrive.”
