2012 State Scholar and Runner-ups

ZIZ News…Nov 5, 2012 — The Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) has provided the Scholarship Rank Order Listing for St. Kitts and Nevis. The listing is based on candidates’ performance on the 2011 and 2012 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). Candidates are ranked by the highest number of Grade 1 passes obtained in seven qualifying units and then other criteria in the event of a tie. The rank order is as follows:


1. TISHANNA HAZEL Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College

Seven (7) Grade I passes

2. SHANICE LIBURD Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College

Five (5) Grade I passes with a T Score of 531

3. WRICHERLEY GUMBS Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College

Five (5) Grade I passes with a T Score of 530


Tishanna Hazel of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College is therefore the 2012 State Scholar. Tishanna gained seven (7) Grade I passes from seven qualifying units: Caribbean Studies, Communication Studies, Biology Units1 and 2, Pure Mathematics Units 1 and 2 and Information Technology Unit 1; and two (2) Grade II passes in Chemistry Units 1 and 2.

Both Shanice Liburd and Wricherley Gumbs obtained five (5) grade I passes in seven (7) qualifying subjects. In accordance with the established criteria for determining a tiebreak, CXC computed T-scores for them and it was determined by CXC that Shanice Liburd had a T-score of 531 and Wricherley Gumbs had a T-score of 530.

Hence, Shanice Liburd and Wricherley Gumbs are the runner-ups to the state scholar in first and second position respectively.

Shanice Liburd gained five (5) Grade I passes in Caribbean Studies, Communication Studies, Accounting Units 1 and 2, and Economics Unit 2 and three Grade II passes in Economics Unit 1 and Management of Business Units and 1 and 2.

Wricherley Gumbs gained five (5) Grade I passes in Communication Studies, Economics Unit 2, Environmental Science Units 1 and 2 and Sociology Unit 2, three (3) Grade II passes in Caribbean Studies, Sociology Unit 1, Literatures in English Unit 1 and , one (1) Grade III pass in Literatures in English Unit 2.

The Ministry of Education hereby extends congratulations to Tishanna Hazel, Shanice Liburd and Wricherley Gumbs on their achievement and best wishes as they pursue further studies.
