Arts Festival Opens

ZIZ News—9th September, 2013–Week two of Independence Activities began today with the official opening ceremony of the National Arts Festival

The event kicks off a series of interactive events focusing on various art forms.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Sharon Rattan outlined what would be coming up in the week and paid tribute to the patron of the arts festival, Joan Mallelieu.

Mrs Mallelieu said she was honoured to be chosen as patron and said the event would put a spotlight on artists that don’t get much exposure.

Minister of Culture, the Hon Marcella Liburd said this is part of government’s commitment to revive the arts festival and stage it every two years.

Several activities will be held throughout the week across the island, including ministers’ visits to schools, workshops for children and adults, and the cultural gala night.
