Ballroom Dance Workshops

ZIZ News—10th September, 2013–The Rotary Club of Liamuiga has teamed up with an Antiguan dance group to host a week of ballroom dance workshops, tying in with Independence activities.

In this report the classes cater to every skill level, including those with no dance experience.

All this week the Terspichorean Ballroom Dance School of Antigua are holding workshops to teach the basics in classic and Latin ballroom styles.

At this beginners class the tutors go through the basic steps for the cha-cha and the rumba.

Eustace Warner, director of The Rotary Club of Liamuiga says the goal is to stimulate the awareness of the art form and promote ballroom dancing here.

Mr. Warner also said “They have a very vibrant dance group in Antigua and they have always entered into competitions in Barbados and Trinidad. And so they got in touch with me and decided, you know, they would like to pay us a visit”

Daphne Minott one of the Antiguan performers said the benefits of ballroom dancing go beyond just dancing.

The free workshops are being held at the St. Johnson’s Community Centre until Wednesday and at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Nevis, later in the week.

The dancers’ visit wraps up with recitals at the sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium and the Nevis Performing Arts Centre.
