Governor-General hosts special Reception for Epworth Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School

His Excellency The Governor-General Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton, GCMG, cva, QC, JP this morning Monday 3rd July, 2017 hosted a special Reception at Government House for the students and staff of The Epworth Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School. Special guests of His Excellency were his former Headmistress, Mrs. Veronica Phillip, MBE and his former Grade VI Teacher Mrs Maureen Edwards. Also present was a former teacher at the school Mrs Elsie Leader and Reverend and Mrs Mark Christmas.

His Excellency said the Reception was a way to say special thanks to his former teachers Mrs Phillip and Mrs Edwards for their contribution to his early education at Epworth and their outstanding contribution to his upbringing. Sir Tapley adopted the statement – “Educate a Child – Touch The Future”.

He credited all that he had achieved to the excellent grounding at Epworth. His Excellency showed the students copies of his School Reports from 1957 and 1958 when he received outstanding grades and told the students that they had to read, study and learn in order to achieve.

Reverend Christmas provided the Invocation and former Headmistress Mrs Phillip imparted words of encouragements to the students. Principal Mrs Icilma Springer also addressed all gathered and thanked the Governor-General for hosting the entire School.
