Jaro Electronics expansion on St. Kitts welcomed by PM Douglas

ST. KITTS, JANUARY 1, 2011 (CUOPM) – Welcoming the planned expansion of Jaro Electronics, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says the manufacturing sector will continue to be an important source of employment for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis in the new year.

Praising the outstanding performance of workers in those enterprises which have already established St. Kitts and Nevis as the leading exporter of goods to the USA from the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados, Prime Minister Douglas said Jaro Electronics, assemblers of industrial motors and transformers, will expand its workforce during the first six months of 2011.

“Of course, we are disappointed that the global recession has forced the closure of Reeds Data Services, but we are pleased that Jaro Electronics has decided to expand its operations into one of the buildings previously occupied by Reeds Data Services and to expand its workforce by some 150 workers,” said Dr. Douglas in his New Year’s message on Saturday.

He said the expansion of Jaro Electronics during a global recession, testifies to the strength and dynamism of the manufacturing sector in St. Kitts and Nevis and of its potential for future growth.
