PM Douglas meets Italy’s new Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis

ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 8, 2010 (CUOPM) – Scholarships for nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis to specialise in medicine and other fields, transformation of the St. Kitts and Nevis economy, Euro-Caribbean relations and tourism were among matters discussed Tuesday between St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and Italy’s new Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency, Arturo Olivieri.

Ambassador Olivieri, who earlier presented his credentials to the Governor General, His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Douglas at Government Headquarters.

Prime Minister Douglas welcomed Italy’s Dominican Republic-based diplomat to Basseterre and hoped his term of office will lead to the strengthening of relations between the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of Italy.

In accepting the words of welcome, Ambassador Olivieri relayed greetings to Dr. Douglas from Italian Prime Minister, His Excellency Silvio Berlusconi and the Italian Foreign Minister, His Excellency Franco Frattini.

Ambassador Olivieri succeeds His Excellency Ambassador Enrico Guicciardi, who served the Federation from February, 2007 until his term of office ended in August, 2010.

Ambassador Olivieri was accompanied by his country’s Honorary Consul on St. Kitts and Nevis, Kittitian businessman Mr. Ernest Amory and brings with him some 35 years in the Diplomatic field holding posts in Tunisia, France, Argentina, Indonesia, Belgium and Tanzania. His most recently held post was as Coordinator of relations with the Caribbean Community, Cariforum and the Association of Caribbean States.
