Rotary Club of Liamuiga Remembers Rotarian Gus Williams

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Mr. Cecil Edward Cainwright Williams (fondly known as Gus), an early member of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga (RCL) is being remembered by club members around the Federation for his activism and community spirit.

Born in St. Kitts on August 22, 1948, Gus migrated to England during his youth and was a prominent community figure in the Birmingham area. He was a philanthropist, scholar, community activist, surveyor, entrepreneur and so much more. To the Rotary Club of Liamuiga he was simply, the ever-smiling, ever-loquacious Rotarian Gus.

Rotarian Gus joined RCL in June 2003, just five months after the Club was chartered. He was religiously committed to the activities of RCL and was extremely active in the life of the Club.

“We spent many a day working together as a team serving the less fortunate throughout various communities. Gus loved doing it and always brought a smile to those that we tried to assist,” said RCL President Lester Hanley. “He also brought smiles to the faces of many Rotarians who enjoyed his infectious laughter and playful mannerisms. He will be missed dearly.”

Rotarian Gus served in several capacities in RCL over the years. He was a member of the Youth Service Projects Sub-Committee, the PR Committee, Rotary Foundation & International Services Committee and the Community Services Committee. He was also director of the Club Administration Committee (2010-2011) and Membership Committee (2011-2012).

Rotarian Gus you will be missed tremendously. To use one of his favourite words, RCL and its members are truly “delighted” to have known you and shared your “delightful” company. We love you!
