Small and Medium Businesses not left out of Contract for Progress

DenzilDouglas-32(ZIZ News) — Small and medium-sized businesses would not be left out when the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the Nevis Reformation Party form the next Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.

That was the view expressed by both party leaders on Thursday, during a press conference.

SKNLP’s leader, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas said under the Contract for Progress, assistance would be given to those businesses.

“We believe that support for small, medium enterprises and their development and expansion must come in both islands. We have to ensure that our small, medium enterprises/entrepreneurs in these areas are given equal support on both islands,” he said.

Dr. Douglas said provision is also made, in the contract, for land and home ownership and agricultural development. He stressed the need to have both islands developing at a similar pace.

“Just as we are saying today that land must be made available in St. Kitts for business, for agriculture and housing, that is expected to be exactly what it must be in the sister island of Nevis as well. We do not want to see one island developing well in advance and beyond the development stage of the other. Both must advance in their development together so that we can receive the benefits totally of one country, St. Kitts and Nevis as a Federation,” Douglas said.
