St. Kitts-Nevis native elected to head Eastern Caribbean Co-operative Central Limited

Basseterre St. Kitts (September 12, 2012) — The Eastern Caribbean Co-operative Central Limited (ECCCL) has elected officers of the board of its directors to serve the term 2012-2013, at its Annual General Meeting that was held recently in Dominica.

Mr. Steadroy Pemberton of St. Kitts and Nevis was elected by his peers unopposed for the post of Chairman. Mr. Devon Charles of Grenada was elected Deputy Chairman, Mr. David Fritz of Dominica was elected Secretary, while Ms Cheryl Evans of St. Vincent and the Grenadines was elected to the post of Treasurer.

According to ECCCL’s spokesperson, Mr. Marlon Stevenson, the other directors are Ms Esther Defoe of Antigua and Barbuda, and Alexander Joseph of St. Lucia.

“The ECCCL recently held its AGM in Dominica during the recently concluded 10th OECS Credit Union Summit,” said Mr. Stevenson. “The ECCCL is a shareholder based co-operative organisation that was registered in St. Vincent and the Grenadines under the Co-operative Societies Act of 1999.”

The organisation has 15 shareholders, and one of its major aims is to further the development of business opportunities for Credit Unions in the sub region.

ECCCL is the holder of a MasterCard principle license and have launched a debit card service for Credit Union members in Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” observed Mr. Stevenson. “Dominica and Nevis will follow in the near future.”

The11th OECS Credit Union Summit will be held in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis in August 2013.

Mr. Steadroy Pemberton is well known in the Cooperative movement in his home country, having been elected as the President of one of the most successful Credit Unions in the sub region, the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union in 2007, a position he served for a period of two years.

Previously he was the Credit Union’s Assistant Secretary/Treasurer for one year, and Treasurer for two years. He has also served on the board of St. Kitts and Nevis National Co-operative League Limited.

Mr. Pemberton is currently a member of four Credit Union movements: The Nevis Co-operative Credit Union, St. Kitts Co-operative Credit Union, the FND Co-operative Credit Union and the St. Kitts and Nevis National Co-operative League Limited.
