St. Kitts to host 22nd OECS Ministers of Education meeting

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 17, 2012 (SKNIS): Final preparations are underway for the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to host the 22nd Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Ministers of Education Meeting under the theme “OECS Education: Contributing to a Deeper, Stronger, Economic Union”.

This meeting which is scheduled to be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort from May 22 to 24, will give policy makers an opportunity to engage in constructive dialogue on substantive issues regarding education development in the OECS, agree on policies and strategies to advance OECS education, secure the support and collaboration of regional agencies in advancing the education development agenda, as well as share innovative ideas and experiences that have contributed to educational development at the national level.

St. Kitts and Nevis’ Federal Minister of Education and Information, Hon. Nigel Carty and the Director of the Social and Sustainable Development Division of the OECS Secretariat, Mr. Bentley Browne, are scheduled to deliver remarks at the opening ceremony on Tuesday.

During the three day event, the Ministers of Education are expected to address a number of pertinent issues including Early Childhood Development, Teacher Professional Development and Post Secondary and Higher Education.

The last OECS Ministers of Education meeting was held in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, in 2010.
