Superyacht Race Planned for St. Kitts Next Year

(ZIZ)– The multi-million dollar Superyacht Marina at Christophe Harbour is expected to be completed by the end of this year and already plans are being made to host a superyacht regatta here.

Chief Executive Officer of Christophe Harbour Development Company, Buddy Darby announced on Friday plans to bring an event similar to the Pendennis Cup to St. Kitts.

The Pendennis Cup is a regatta that is held every two years and showcases modern and classic superyachts in a race around UK’s waters. The 2014 event, held from May 26-31, featured 11 yachts.

“I just recently attended the Pendennis Cup in Falmouth, England and we are planning a sister event in St. Kitts next March,” he said. “This is just the beginning of many superyacht events that will be attracted to the federation because of the world class facilities and services that we will be providing.”

Meanwhile, Darby said work on the accompanying marina village will provide jobs for hundreds of locals.

“We are also full steam ahead on designing the marina village…and that will far surpass the $90 million investment as well as creating hundreds and hundreds,” he said.

The first phase of the marina, which includes the first 24 berths up to 65 meters, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
