WICB/UNICEF Child Protection Workshop Held in St. Kitts

(ZIZ News) – The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has partnered with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to host another Child Protection Workshop for coaches involved in the WICB Grassroots and Scotia Bank Kiddy Cricket programmes.

Thursday’s workshop formed part of the revamped WICB coaching education programme, which seeks to standardise and meet current international coaching benchmarks.

Leeward Islands’ Territorial Development Officer, Junie Mitcham said it is important for coaches and teachers to be educated on different forms of child abuse.

“Because of the modern era, our children are faced with enormous pressures, influence and susceptibility to abuse in their many forms. And so, this workshop helps to train and educate our coaches and teachers on the subject of all abuse and how to handle these incidents which will help them to make their coaching sessions not only fun but safe for all boys and girls,” Mitcham said.

The workshop, held at the Conaree Cricket Facility, was conducted by Probation and Child Protection Services Officer, Glentine Wattley.
