Mexico To Seek Charges Over I.C.E. Deaths
Mexico says it will seek criminal charges over the deaths of seventeen Mexican nationals who died in U.S. Immigration custody or during immigration enforcement operations.
The Mexican government will ask U.S. authorities to consider criminal charges against those responsible, while also pursuing civil action against the companies that operate the detention centres.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said Mexico had decided to move beyond diplomatic protests following the shooting death of a Mexican national by an I.C.E. agent in Texas this week.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the agent acted in self-defence after Lorenzo Araujo allegedly tried to ram him with a vehicle.
Mexico says fourteen of its citizens have died while in I.C.E. custody, while three others died during immigration enforcement operations.
