Advice for employers and employees

As the world adjusts to working under Covid-19 circumstances a senior Trades and Labour Union official is calling on employees to be more resilient.

In an interview with ZIZ News, General Secretary of the Trades and Labour Union, Precious Mills said Covid-19 has resulted in layoffs and reduced hours but reminded that this period shall pass and workers should keep a positive and resilient attitude.

“Many workers take pride in being able to earn an honest living and to work hard to achieve their goals and so I think at this point looking post the pandemic I think workers now should start developing an attitude of resilience because, of course, this period shall pass and so the workers should be able to have an attitude of one that says they’re going to be positive in terms of what’s going to happen after the pandemic. And so, even though this is a tough time, financially and otherwise for the workers, they must have an attitude of resilience,” she said.

Meanwhile, Miss Mills said as employers make assessments at their workplaces in the Covid-19 affected economy, they should make their workers a priority, especially when it comes to compensation packages.

“A lot of these workers would have given their time and their efforts and so at this very difficult time I think when it comes to handling workers with their packages, make sure that they are handled in a timely manner,” she said. “The situation itself is already stressful and so make sure this area is prioritized.
