Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 6, 2020 (ZIZ News): The Amory Bakery located on Victoria Road in Basseterre St. Kitts will be distributing free bread to the entire nation on Thursday, April 9 2020.
This announcement was made by Chair of Amory Enterprises, Ernest Amory during the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) media briefing on Monday.
“Each person will receive 3 large loaves of bread along with 3 buns. We have the Easter weekend coming up and we want to make sure that everyone has something to eat. Sometimes in these crises we tend to think about ourselves but this time we need to think about others”, the Chair explained.
He then urged all businesses to get on board to assist where they can to help those in need during these difficult times.
During the briefing Mr. Amory was questioned by members of the media who were curious as to how the process of distribution would be handled considering the Ministry of Health’s social distancing requirements.
He used the opportunity to explain that the company will seek assistance from law enforcement during this period.
He said, “We will have to discuss this with the police to ensure everything is done In order without any out of order people. My suggestion will be to have persons either start from Fort Street by Subway coming up or from Victoria Road going down and persons will not be going into the bakery. There’s a garage where tables will be put in front of the garage. All the breads will be wrapped so the person can just come pick it up and go”.
At the end of his presentation, the Chair of Amory Enterprises said in addition to the bread distribution on Thursday, all hospitals and clinics will receive free bread every day once permitted, until the end of May.
The Infirmary and the St. Christopher Children’s Home will also receive free bread.
Almost one decade ago, the Amory Bakery distributed 17 thousand loaves of bread to the island in December 2010.
