Electoral Reform Expected This Year

(ZIZ News) – Attorney General, the Hon. Vincent Byron says the process of electoral reform in St. Kitts-Nevis is expected to begin later this year.

He made the comment when responding to a question from the media at the Prime Minister’s monthly press conference.

“Within a couple months we will be establishing the initial committees to review the process and to start gathering in public consultation, the way forward as to how we would make sure that the electoral process in St. Kitts and Nevis, that is mandated by our constitution, is in place properly,” Minister Byron said.

When asked about the investigations surrounding the Electoral Office in St. Kitts, Minister Byron said while he cannot give any details, he can confirm that the Criminal Investigations Department is pursuing the matter.

“There are particular things that are being done and until the police have completed that investigation and have presented their findings to the Director of Public Prosecutions, if there needs to be any charges issued, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on that,” he said.
