Inland Revenue Department to Host Week of Activities

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 27th May 2013 (Inland Revenue Department) – The St. Kitts-Nevis Inland Revenue Department (IRD) will be hosting its first IRD Week of activities from May 26th to June 1st, 2013. The week will be celebrated under the theme, “Building the Nation through Responsible Tax Administration”. The Department has been undergoing a period of transformation and reorganization which is focused on making sure that IRD has the capacity and technical know-how to continue meeting the needs of a modern and dynamic economy.

The period of reflection will primarily be geared towards providing the Department with an opportunity to continue the process of informing and educating the wider community and its stakeholders on what is the role and function of the Inland Revenue Department, within the context of being the primary revenue collection and tax administration entity in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Additionally, the week of celebration will allow for the strengthening of the relationship between customers and the Department, through more effective communication and exchange of ideas. It is also expected to promote team work, enhance productivity and strengthen interpersonal relationships among staff.

The series of events will begin with a Church Service on Sunday May 26th, 2013 at The Zion Moravian Church. This will be followed by Tax Talk, featuring a visit to all the High Schools on St. Kitts. A Panel Discussion focusing on taxation will take place on ZIZ Television on Monday, 27th May, 2013 at 8:00 pm. On Tuesday, May 28th, 2013 a Senior Citizens Appreciation Day will be celebrated where over twenty senior persons from across the nine parishes on St. Kitts will be honoured by members of staff. On Wednesday May 29th, 2013 we will be having an E-Filing day where persons and businesses will be encouraged to register for E-filing.

Other activities include a Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Thursday 30th May, 2013 followed by a Customer Appreciation Day on Friday 31stMay, 2013 at the Department’s main office located on the Bay Road, Basseterre. Later that evening, the Department will engage the Customs and Excise Department in a friendly game of basketball at the Bird Rock Sporting Complex at 6:00 pm. The week of activities will conclude with a FUN Sports Day on Saturday, 1st, June, 2013.
