Ministry of National Security to launch St. Paul’s Explorers Youth Group

(SKNIS): The Ministry of National Security continues to roll out its Crime Reduction and Prevention Strategy and will be launching the St. Paul’s Explorers Group as part of that initiative. Scheduled for Tuesday, March 20, at 5 p.m., the launch of this group will bring the total that already exists to three as it joins the Mol-Phil Explorers and the Shadwell Explorers that were introduced last year.

The formation of community youth groups around the federation is considered an integral part of broader community policing and social intervention initiatives. The event will take place at the St. Paul’s Primary School where the leaders and prospective members have been meeting regularly.

Coordinator of the Explorer Movement and Founder of the Mol-Phil Explorers Group, Inspector Rosemary Isles-Joseph, explained that letters were prepared specifically for the parents of students from St. Paul’s. They were sent to the principals of the St. Paul’s Primary School and the Charles E. Mills Secondary School for distribution. The letters outlined the objectives of the initiative and invited parents to send their children to the orientation meeting, which was held on January 18, 2018, at the St. Paul’s Primary School. The group has been meeting at least twice a week at that venue since.

“The attendance was good. We started out with about 17 participants and we’re now up to 57. The intention is to keep the children off the street and away from drugs, gangs and crime as much as possible,” Inspector Isles-Joseph said. “The feedback has been good so far from the parents and the children are interested.”

Plans for a St. Peters Explorers Group are already underway and more details regarding that group will become available in the near future.
