NTA hosts social media training for tourism stakeholders

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 15, 2020 (ZIZ News): The Nevis Tourism Authority (NTA) is enhancing the digital competencies of its stakeholders with the hosting of social media training for all tourism stakeholders on Nevis.

ZIZ News spoke with chief executive officer of the Nevis Tourism Authority, Jadine Yarde who is playing an active role in facilitating the workshops.

She said the NTA felt it necessary for stakeholder to understand social media platforms in order to help bring awareness to the destination.

“I have a very great background in digital marketing and so I wanted to kind of lend my services to the Nevisian stakeholders for them to understand the platforms and kind of help us all collectively as we try to raise awareness of Nevis as a destination,” she said. “Looking to a lot of smaller businesses that might not have a budget to allocate for social media management, they can allow themselves to learn about these platforms so that they can do that for themselves. When they do that they can raise the search engine optimization and make sure that Nevis stays top of mind.”

She said the training is of particular importance in the age of COVID-19 when everyone is using social media platforms now more than ever.

“Now more than ever, we are learning everything is going into the digital realm and it’s important for us to understand that realm very well and I think that all of the businesses have seen that as a necessity for their business growth and with that information we have been able to provide something for them in order to learn about the platforms.”

Yarde said the workshops which began on June 4th are being conducted using COVID-19 protocols.

She also noted that although it was expected to be a 5 week course, due to the new regulations it is expected to wrap up in the next few months.

“It’s a five-week course; the first week was on Facebook, the next week is on Instagram, Twitter, TripAdvisor and overall search engine optimization. Because of social distancing practices, we have to limit the amount of people that actually are able to attend but we decided to just lessen the numbers so there are more classes but less people and so we are able to accommodate the list of people that were interested by breaking it down by a group of four or a group of five.”

The Nevis Tourism Authority social media training for tourism stakeholders takes place at the NTA conference room on Thursdays from 3pm.
