Police investigate Market Street Shooting

CrimeShootingFilePhotoA(ZIZ News) — Police are investigating a shooting incident that has left a young man in the hospital.

It occurred at Upper Market Street on Saturday night.

According to reports, late Saturday night, Shawn Huggins of Ponds Extension was in the vicinity of a popular fast food shop on Market Street when he was attacked by an unknown gunman.

He was injured in the eye and is currently at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

The police say they are currently pursuing the investigation and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the nearest police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1 800-8477.

Meanwhile, investigations continue into Thursday morning’s apparent suicide of a man in De Village area.

The man has been identified as Calvin Roberts, the brother of retired Commissioner Of Police Robert Jeffers.

A senior police official told ZIZ News that the police are treating it as a suicide and an autopsy will be conducted.

He said there has been no definite indication that foul play was involved.

Calvin Roberts was found hanging in his home in Trafalgar Village on New Year’s Day.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.
