Premier Brantley’s Independence 36 Message

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 20, 2019 (ZIZ News): In his Independence 36 address to the nation, Premier of Nevis, The Honourable Mark Brantley delivered a message of hope.

In his opening statement, Premier Brantley spoke about the hardships faced by Nevisians for the past year; referencing the closure of the 4 Seasons Resort and the Brownhill Communications Call Centre affecting the revenue prospects and employment situation of the island.

Premier Brantley said that despite these hardships the government and people of Nevis remained resilient; he also mentioned the various developments made on the infrastructure of the island and attributes the success to hope.

“It is hope that has propelled us to embark upon continued infrastructural development for the advancement of our island. We have continued the development of Brownhill Road which was left untouched for over 50 years we have embarked on the development of Craddock Road to bring relief to the people there after more than 40 years; we have embarked on the largest expansion of the Alexandra Hospital in the island’s history, we have also expanded the water distribution and storage capacity of our island.”

Premier Brantley also mentioned that investments were not only made in the infrastructure of the island but also in the people.

“We have invested in our students studying abroad, granting some measure of assistance to help them realize their dreams of achieving tertiary education, we have incentivise small business development through our small business development unit, to this end I’m happy to report that the government of the Republic of China Taiwan has approved funding for our micro loan program of $5million where we will offer loans of up to $100, 000 to women of all ages and men under 35 to boost small and micro business ownership among women and out youth.”

Premier Brantley concluded his address by asking the people of Nevis to remain hopeful as it is hope that is and will continue to be the foundation of the island and nation.
