Residents to name C.P.L. team

VernonSpringerFilePhotoC(ZIZ News) — Residents of St. Kitts and Nevis will be given the opportunity to choose a name for the Federation’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise team.

That announcement was made by Senior Sports Officer, Vernon Springer during an interview with ZIZ Sports.

“Right after the draft, you know the CPL draft will be taking place on the 5th of February in Jamaica and so, over the next couple of days you would hear the coach that would be named for the St. Kitts-Nevis team and what is going to happen is that right after the draft, there is going to be a three-day competition. The folks in St. Kitts-Nevis and around the world would get an opportunity to name their team. There have been some names that have been batting around,” Springer said.

He said persons will be able to vote on the team’s name via the CPL’s official Facebook page.

“We’re going to use a platform, we’re going to use the CPL Facebook platform and we’re also going to use the Digicel text platform so the folks in St. Kitts and Nevis, this is a St. Kitts and Nevis team, they will get an opportunity to vote on a name. It could be the St. Kitts-Nevis Canons. It could be the St. Kitts-Nevis Pelicans. It could be whatever but people can use their thoughts, come up with something creative and those names would be put into the bag and you would get an opportunity to vote,” Springer added.

The CPL management announced, this week, that in addition to a franchise being based here, St. Kitts and Nevis will also host six neutral CPL matches at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

This is in addition to the four matches for the home team and the charity match which features the Prime Minister’s XI versus the Sir Ian Botham’s XI.
