SKN Basketball Teams Compete in St. Lucia
BASSETERRE – Two St. Kitts and Nevis national basketball teams departed yesterday for the St. Lucia 3×3 Basketball Invitational, marking a crucial step in the country’s bid to qualify for major international competitions.
The St. Kitts & Nevis Amateur Basketball Association (SKNABA) has dispatched both U23 and senior men’s 3×3 teams to compete in the two-day tournament scheduled for December 6-7, with the delegation set to return on December 8.
The tournament represents more than just regional competition. SKNABA revealed that participation forms part of an ongoing strategic effort to qualify for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The invitational provides essential competition exposure and ranking opportunities critical for international qualification.
The U23 squad features Garfield Jamal Hodge, Jayzanye Hodge, J’Quante Fraser, and Makari Gumbs, coached by Sheldon Chiverton-Blake. The senior team includes Nashorn Maynard, Jaylen Leader, Cecil Angel, and Calbert Dore, with Maynard serving as player-coach.
SKNABA acknowledged the vital support of the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee, which has provided financial and technical assistance to elevate the nation’s presence on the regional 3×3 circuit.
The association emphasized this initiative as part of a broader long-term plan to build a solid foundation for future international competitions, encouraging the public to follow and support the teams as they represent St. Kitts and Nevis abroad.
Updates and results will be shared through SKNABA’s official platforms.
