St. Kitts Tourism Hosts Virtual Happy Hour

BASSETERRE (7th May, 2020): With the “Shelter in Place” order in the United Kingdom due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority (SKTA) is combining our creativity and the virtual world, to connect with the travel trade, to keep brand St. Kitts alive in the travel market.

Today, May 7th 2020, the SKTA hosted its first virtual happy hour tutorial.  UK travel agents actively learned how to mix Kittitian-themed cocktails using St. Kitts branded rum, while at the same time allowing the UK sales team to share destination facts.

This is just one component of a multifaceted-online campaign to keep St. Kitts on the minds of the travel trade, during a time of heightened uncertainty. Particularly since travel agents are now working from home, and are interested in creative ways to build their knowledge of the destination during the lockdown period.

The virtual happy hour was hosted by Ian Burrell, who is a Global Rum Ambassador and popular UK mixologist. Burrell infused the history of Rum and St. Kitts while mixing the three Kittitian-inspired Cocktails:

  1. The Kim Collins:  Burrell spoke about our living legend Kim Collins, who is the 2003 World Champion in the 100 meters.
  2. Basseterre Breeze: Introduction for travel agents to our quaint and historic capital town, Basseterre.
  3. Ting With a Sting: An iconic St. Kitts cocktail, which speaks to the vibes of our beach bars, spectacular sunsets and soothing sounds of the Caribbean Sea.

Tourism will return to St. Kitts, and when it does, the destination will be ready to welcome the world. That is why the St. Kitts Tourism Authority has had to adapt with creative ideas to continue to promote the destination, to keep St. Kitts relevant in the UK Market. Three more virtual happy hour sessions are scheduled into the summer, including a series of destination webinars for the UK travel trade.
