Transforming the Work Environment

(ZIZ News) – Minister of Labour, the Honourable Vance Amory says a future in which a peaceful co-existence among the labour unions, the Employer’s Confederation, and the people who they represent should be established for the transformation of the working environment.

Amory was at the time speaking at the opening of the International Labour Organization-European Union National Bipartite Meeting on Thursday.

He said, “Our mantra as a government: the Ministry of Labour, Department of Labour and officers in that department… we are not representatives for either union or employees, or on the other hand representatives for the employers but we are there to represent both and to create within the ambit of the legislative framework a balance to ensure there is harmony and there is progressive development for our countries.”

The minister said employers will have to find a happy medium with employees, in order for them to be content in their place of work “that they feel confident and they are prepared to give of their best to ensure that your enterprises are able to prosper so that you can continue the investment which will create additional employment so you can make the profits which you wold like to make but not to the detriment of the employees who create, who drive, with your guidance, the development of your enterprises.”
