Trinbago Knight Riders Clinch Fifth CPL Title in Thrilling Victory

Georgetown, Guyana – The Trinbago Knight Riders secured their fifth Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title with a dramatic three-wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in a tense final on September 23, 2025, ending a five-year wait for the trophy.

Chasing a modest 131, the Knight Riders found themselves in trouble at 116-7, with Guyana’s bowlers exploiting a turning pitch. Veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir (3-34) struck crucial blows, dismissing Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell in consecutive deliveries, while Moeen Ali’s tight four overs yielded just 11 runs. However, Akeal Hosein turned the game with a match-winning cameo, smashing 16 not out off seven balls, including a six and a four, to steer TKR to victory with 12 balls to spare.

Earlier, Hosein’s left-arm spin (2-26) had helped restrict Guyana to a below-par 130-8. The Warriors struggled at 65-5 after 12 overs, with Moeen Ali (10), Shai Hope (12), and Shimron Hetmyer (4 off 13) faltering. Late contributions from Iftikhar Ahmed (30) and Dwaine Pretorius (25) gave Guyana a fighting total, but it wasn’t enough.

Alex Hales top-scored for TKR with a cautious 26 off 34 balls, battling the spin-friendly conditions. The victory marked a triumphant first season for TKR under new captain Nicholas Pooran and coach Dwayne Bravo, cementing their status as the CPL’s most successful franchise.
