VAT free school supplies?

ZIZ News [ September 4, 2013]– Prime Minister The Right Hon Dr Denzil Douglas says there should be no VAT on educational items.

He was responding to a caller on his radio programme “Ask The Prime Minister” who complained about having to pay VAT on school uniforms.

Dr Douglas school supplies are supposed to be VAT exempt.

Right now text books, exercises and most recently chalk are VAT free but other school supplies, including bags, uniforms, pencils and pens carry the 17 percent value added tax.
