St Kitts Nevis Pitches in to Help Dominica
(ZIZ News) – Residents of Dominica have started the rebuilding process following Wednesday’s passage of Tropical Storm Erika that wreaked havoc on the island.
Residents and businesses here in St. Kitts and Nevis are helping in that process.
Early Sunday morning, the M.V. Mate Abigail left the Deep Water Port destined for Dominica with dozens of boxes containing water, canned foods with easy open lids, bed linen and toiletries.
This relief effort was spearheaded by the Rotary Clubs of Liamuiga and St. Kitts.
In speaking with ZIZ News, Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga, Dr. Marcus Natta explained why this effort was organised.
“The Rotary Club of Liamuiga, as well as the rotary club of St. Kitts, we are both service organisations and of course in times of disaster, times of emergency we always jump right in and are always willing to assist. Also in Dominica, we have two Rotary clubs, the Rotary Club of Dominica and the Rotary Club of Portsmouth, and as our sister and fellow Rotarians we have to support them in this time of need.”
Dr. Natta said the cause was well supported by local businesses and individuals.

Tropical Storm Erika battered Dominica on Wednesday, dumping 15 inches of rain that caused flooding and massive landslides.
The country’s Prime Minister confirmed on Friday that at least 20 people are dead and hundreds of homes, bridges and roads had been destroyed.
