Mural Unveiled Warner Park Celebrate Taiwan Navy
Basseterre — A new mural now brightens Warner Park after Minister of Culture, Entertainment and the Arts Hon. Samuel Duggins officially unveiled the artwork last Friday.
The colourful piece was created through a special collaboration between members of the visiting Taiwan Navy Midshipman Cruising and Training Squadron and local residents. It stands as a lasting reminder of the historic naval visit and more than four decades of warm diplomatic relations between St. Kitts-Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The mural captures themes of sport, culture and unity, featuring images of cricket and basketball alongside symbols of friendship between the two nations. Minister Duggins described the project as a visible example of genuine community partnership during the squadron’s stay.
“What makes this mural even more special is that it was painted by members of the Squadron themselves, working alongside our community to create a meaningful piece of art that reflects our shared values and connection,” the Minister said. “As we celebrate over four decades of diplomatic ties, we continue to build bridges that connect our people, inspire our youth, and strengthen our future.”
The unveiling formed part of a series of activities marking the Taiwan Navy’s first visit to the Federation in 23 years. Residents who pass through Warner Park can now see this joint creation that celebrates the strong bonds of solidarity, mutual respect and shared values that have defined the relationship since Taiwan recognised St. Kitts-Nevis shortly after independence in 1983.
This artistic gesture adds a permanent cultural landmark to one of our most popular public spaces and reminds everyone of the people-to-people connections that continue to grow between our islands and Taiwan.
