Student Fatally Stabbed at Jamaica Bus Park
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A secondary school student was killed Monday afternoon during a violent dispute at the Morant Bay bus park in St. Thomas, prompting Jamaica’s Ministry of Education to call for an urgent national response to youth violence.
The victim, a student of Seaforth High School, was allegedly attacked by a peer who obtained a knife from a nearby business during the confrontation. Three students are currently in police custody as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting a disturbing trend of student-on-student violence in public transit hubs.
“This is a traumatic time for the staff and students,” stated officials from the Ministry of Education, who confirmed that guidance counselors have been deployed to the school to provide psychological support.
Education Minister Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a tragedy that requires more than just police intervention. She urged for a unified national effort to address the root causes of aggression among the youth.
“We need a national response to youth violence,” Dr. Morris Dixon said, urging stakeholders across the country to join in preventing further bloodshed. The Ministry has pledged to continue its collaboration with security forces and community partners to strengthen support systems within the school system.
