BASSETERRE – MFCR Old Road United Jets advanced to the three-match championship finals with a commanding 3-0 victory over Honda Newtown United. The win came on Wednesday, where Tiquanny Williams delivered a dominant hat-trick. His performance sealed the undefeated champions’ place at the top of the playoff stage.
Williams’ three goals – scored in the 46th, 56th and 90+16th minutes (the final from the penalty spot) – proved devastating for Newtown.
The victory extended Old Road’s unbeaten record for the 2025-2026 season, while maintaining their remarkable defensive record of not conceding a single goal through the Finals.
The result ends Newtown’s playoff campaign without a single victory or goal. The Honda-sponsored team, which finished third on the regular season points table, has been eliminated from championship contention, having conceded seven goals across two Final Four matches while failing to find the net in any of them. Their continued struggles represent one of the season’s most surprising collapses.
Old Road’s passage to the finals was never seriously in doubt despite Newtown’s determined defensive effort through the opening 45 minutes. The goalless first half showed that the defending champions could not break through immediately, but that changed dramatically following the interval when Williams began his devastating run of strikes.
Williams’ opening goal came in the 46th minute, just seconds into the second half, immediately shifting momentum toward Old Road. The striker’s second strike arrived 10 minutes later in the 56th minute to put the match beyond doubt, with Old Road’s attacking dominance fully on display. Williams completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 90+16th minute to add the finishing touch to a dominant performance.
The match descended into disciplinary chaos in the final stages, with red cards issued to both sides as the contest lost its composure. Newtown’s Kimron Browne received a straight red card in the 27th minute, forcing the team to defend with 10 men through the majority of the contest. Old Road subsequently saw two players sent off: Trevor Hanley received a red card in the 57th minute after receiving two yellow cards in the match, while Nejohn Browne was dismissed in the 90+2nd minute.
Yellow cards were distributed throughout the encounter, with Hazon Marshall cautioned for Newtown in the 26th minute. For Old Road, Trevor Hanley received cautions in the 28th and 57th minutes before his eventual dismissal, while Nejohn Browne was shown yellow cards in the 64th and 90+2nd minutes prior to his red card in the closing stages.
Old Road’s advancement confirms their place in a three-match series finals where they will face the winner of the Cayon Rockets versus St. Peters FC qualifying match. The undefeated defending champions have now secured six points through two playoff victories without conceding a goal, positioning them as overwhelming favorites to claim the championship title and complete a historic treble following their regular season Premier League title and FA Cup trophy.
The match was overseen by Referee Reginald Gumbs with assistance from linesmen Juniequa Matthew, Yohan Nieuenkirk and Jody Walters. Reserve officials Jabari Trotman and Raynic Bartlette stood ready, while Lloyd Rouse served as Referee Assessor and Detroit Henry as Match Commissioner.
