Old Road Victory Stands After Appeal

BASSETERRE: Montreaville Farms Cleanrite Old Road United Jets FC has won its appeal and reclaimed victory in one of the most controversial decisions of the 2025–2026 football season. The St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association has cancelled a mandated replay of Old Road’s disputed Final Four match against Newtown United FC, allowing the victory to stand.

According to a media release from Old Road, the resolution emerged after mutual discussions between Newtown and the SKNFA. All Final Four standings remain unchanged, and no sanctions, penalties, or deductions will be imposed against either club, Old Road stated.

Old Road’s battle began on May 8, when the SKNFA Disciplinary & Ethics Committee nullified the club’s Final Four win and ordered a replay — a decision handed down with less than 24 hours’ notice before the hearing. The club received no official match reports, evidence, or documentation outlining the basis of the protest before a decision was rendered, according to their official statement.

“Football cannot operate on uncertainty, selective interpretation, or extraordinary measures that undermine public confidence in the competition,” Old Road stated in their statement. “Decisions of this magnitude set a dangerous precedent for the future of the sport in our Federation.”

Old Road raised questions about due process, pointing out that the SKNFA’s own disciplinary framework states that decisions taken by referees on the field are final except under very limited circumstances. Old Road emphasized the anomaly of such a severe ruling being issued in hours, overturning a completed match without clarity on the violation.

The situation was further complicated by Newtown United FC’s record in the tournament: the club has lost all three Final Four matches played.

Following the appeal resolution, Old Road formally confirmed their position that focus should remain on the Premier League Finals

In a statement released May 12, Old Road thanked their “passengers, sponsors, supporters, and the wider Old Road community for the unwavering support, encouragement, and solidarity shown throughout this period.” The club welcomed the SKNFA’s commitment to reviewing officiating concerns to strengthen standards moving forward.
