Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 1, 2019 (ZIZ News): A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday afternoon to officially open the first ever Basseterre Animal Rescue Centre on island.
The centre, located at Lime Kiln Institutional and Commercial Development is a joint effort by the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and animal care-focused non-profit organizations such as PAWS and SAFE.
During the ceremony, Chairperson of the BARC Board, Mala Weston, said the centre will help to educate the community about animal care, compassion and volunteerism.
Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Shawn Richards, said animal activists across St. Kitts and Nevis should be proud of the new venture.
He said the opening of the Basseterre Animal Rescue Centre is also timely.
The Animal Rescue Centre is made up of several structures including a reception and administrative area, a pavilion for educational outreach events, a section for kennels, and a housing area for caregivers/workers.
Building two has a total of 6 kennels. The second phase of construction is scheduled to take place shortly and will see the completion of 18 more kennels.
