Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS) — Senior Minister in the Federal Cabinet and Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Vance Amory, has stated his general satisfaction with recent measures law enforcement has taken to enhance public safety on Nevis.
“The police are following up on leads they have received,” Premier Amory stated while referencing several cases. “They are intensifying their stop and search operations [and] they are also visiting or looking at the residences of people whom they identify as being involved in criminal activity to make sure we put the pressure on them.”
Members of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), which Amory leads, have had regular meetings with authorities to review ongoing strategies and receive updates. The Premier added that while there may be minor inconveniences, it is important for law enforcement to remain vigilant.
As such, Amory said it was important to keep the pressure on suspects until the police get the required evidence to take the matter to court.
The private sector has thrown its support behind the public safety initiatives. A recent meeting, with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce yielded a pledge for continued partnership.
Premier Amory stressed that law enforcement and the NIA were on “a very strong path” to reducing criminal activity. He commended the Police High Command and the rank and file for their service and sacrifice.
