BASSETERRE — Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew held a bilateral meeting today, July 7, with Karin B. Sullivan, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Barbados, on the sidelines of the 51st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in Saint Lucia, with officials describing the discussions as productive and reaffirming the strong partnership between St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States.

The meeting brought together officials from both countries to exchange views on a range of issues of mutual interest, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to continued cooperation and constructive engagement.

Officials said the talks underscored the value of sustained dialogue in advancing regional stability, resilience and development, while strengthening the longstanding ties between the two countries.

The meeting came as Drew continues his participation in the CARICOM summit in Saint Lucia, two days after concluding his six-month tenure as chairman of the Caribbean Community. Drew handed the chairmanship to Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre on July 5 during the summit’s opening ceremony, delivering a final address that reflected on his tenure and reaffirmed the importance of regional unity, dialogue and integration among CARICOM’s member states.

According to the prime minister’s office, his six months at the helm of the regional body were marked by efforts to strengthen relationships among member states, build consensus and advance CARICOM priorities in trade, climate resilience, food security, health, security and reparatory justice, along with international cooperation.

In handing over the chairmanship, Drew expressed confidence that the Community would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
