SKN Strengthens Ebola Prevention Measures Amid Africa Outbreak
BASSETERRE: The Ministry of Health in St. Kitts-Nevis is strengthening its measures to safeguard the Federation from the evolving threat posed by the Ebola virus disease affecting parts of Africa.
In light of this threat, the ministry is working with the Ministry of National Security to enhance screening and surveillance measures at the nation’s ports, in particular for persons who have visited African countries deemed high risk.
With this in mind, three nationals were identified through screening and have been quarantined at a private residence for 21 days where they will be monitored by public health officials in accordance with international protocols.
It must be noted that none of the persons quarantined are showing any symptoms of the Ebola virus.
The Ministry of Health added, “Non-nationals who have visited countries deemed to be high risk will not be allowed into the federation.” Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health wishes to advise the public there are no suspected or confirmed cases of the Ebola virus in the Federation and overall public risk remains low.
