A deadly gang attack in Haiti has left at least 47 people dead and more than 50 others kidnapped.

The United Nations says the attack happened in Kenscoff, a hillside community near Port Au Prince.

Armed men raided the area, setting fire to homes and attacking a local church where displaced people were sheltering.

The incident is believed to be one of Haiti’s largest mass kidnappings in recent years, as gangs continue to control large parts of the country.

Haiti is also preparing for general elections scheduled for December.
