Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 09, 2020 (ZIZ News): Vehicle owners and motorists with expired driver’s licenses, will now be given the opportunity to renew their licenses at the end of the month.
This update was shared by Superintendent of Police, Cromwell Henry, during Thursday’s National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) COVID-19 Daily Briefing.
He said the Inland Revenue Department will give persons affected by the Emergency Powers COVID-19 Regulations and those whose vehicles were to be licensed in March additional time to renew them at the end of April 2020.
“The Inland Revenue Department has extended the grace period until April 30 for persons with vehicles ending with three (3) to have their vehicles licensed. Notwithstanding that the Inland Revenue Department will be closed, your vehicles can be licensed online,” said Superintendent Henry, adding that the requirement for the vehicle inspection will be waived since these sites are closed.
While encouraging persons to take advantage of the St. Kitts-Nevis Inland Revenue Department website www.sknird.com, Superintendent Henry explained that the car insurance certificate will replace the vehicle inspection certificate online since that process has been waived.
He said, “The site requires that you upload a vehicle inspection certificate so in the absence of that certificate you will have to upload your insurance certificate. So, you will upload your insurance certificate twice”
The Superintendent said once the online process runs smoothly, persons will be able to collect their licences and receipts at the nearest police station. He said persons will be contacted about the availability of the licenses.
