Superintendent Henry on the role of the police during upcoming general elections
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 25, 2020 (ZIZ News): The upcoming general elections will be conducted under unusual circumstances this year with the current state of emergency regulations in place across the federation.
Divisional Commander for District A Cromwell Henry spoke of the role of the police to enforce these regulations leading up to and during the general elections.
He was at the time speaking in a recent episode of the program “Policing With You” on ZIZ Radio with host Inspector James Francis.
“These are new laws and our role is to enforce it, if the law say you must ask for permission our job is to ensure that persons who are doing it have permission and if they don’t have permission we take the appropriate action that the law prescribes.”
As it relates to persons who have gotten permission to host virtual meetings, Superintendent Henry said that the law will protect their meetings.
“Our role is to keep out the persons who don’t have permission and to ensure that you’re able to keep your meeting within the guidelines that are specified.”
Superintendent Henry assured persons that while enforcing the law during this election season the police will strive to be balanced.
