UN Security Council to Vote on Getting Peacekeeping Mission Out of Haiti
The United Nations Security Council will officially vote tomorrow on closing the 13-year-long peacekeeping mission in Haiti as recommended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Sandra Honoré, told the Security Council yesterday that United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) should prepare to drawdown over the next six months and transition into a smaller peacekeeping operation focused on strengthening the rule of law, institutions and the national police force.
